The Amato family moved to England from Sicily in 1960, bringing their Italian way of tailoring with them. Pietro, the eldest brother, along with twin brothers Nicky and Vito opened their own tailoring shop in Carlisle city centre, and for many years they built up the Amato’s name and in return, gained many loyal customers. Eventually their success spread, and they each went on to own their own shops.

Pietro and his wife, Charlotte, had two children; Roger and Amanda. Nicky and Trisha had five children, Rosa, Leah, Leonardo, Alessandro and Filippo. Twin brother Vito and Josephine had two children, Leonardo and Giuseppe.
By February 2015 all three Amato brothers had retired from tailoring. But the Amatos name was not to be forgotten. Two of Nicky’s children, Filippo and Rosa had another idea. Filippo Amato, discovered he had a special passion for cooking and he went on to gain over 18 years’ experience as head chef in various restaurants across Europe, cooking for many celebrities along the way. His sister, Rosa, was an accountant and had always wanted to run her own business. And so the partnership was formed and in March 2015, after months of planning, they opened their restaurant; Amato’s…a little taste of Sicily.
Both Filippo and Rosa have dreamed of owning their own business, and with the support of their family and friends, that dream has become a reality. Their mission is to give each of their customers a unique experience as they enjoy a traditional Italian/Sicilian family meal.
